2014Travis Lamb and Calf Day 2014 on PhotoPeach View our authentic learning video Wellington Camp We arrive. Brakes go on. Unload the vehicles! As we sat waiting for the train, one by one each group walked across the road to the train station. After a few minutes waiting the train slowly slopes into the train station. Everyone waited for about a second and then hopped aboard looking for a front seat. But no ... there was only backwards! Super freaky!
The train starts and a giant squeak happens. I fall off my seat as soon as it moves. I realise I need to hop back on.
As I hop back on my seat I see green and blue for miles. There were bushes around the corners. There was birdlife for half of the way.
We stopped in an instant at another stop to pick up some more passengers. The train starts. I quickly grab a handle.
We are off again .. My heart was beating quickly because the train was going faster and faster. The train came to a stop in the city. Suddenly all of the school hops off.
This is my very first time going on a train and it is a great experience for me!

Train coming “errrrrrr”
The school waits for 12 seconds. Then we all climb aboard and find the seats are backwards. When the train started to move I fell of my seat. It was freaky.
There was beautiful scenery drifting in the wind in by my window. Soon we came to a halt. People started to walk out. Then soon more people gathered back in.
Suddenly the train started to move again. I quickly grabbed the handles. Without another second everything went black. Took me a while to figure out what was happening but we were just in a tunnel. About four five times it went black but mostly it was bright and sunny.
I clenched my fist on the handle as I could see we were coming to a stop. Two people aboard.
“pshhhh:” The doors close and we are off like a rocket. The ticket lady comes around and a man had a fake ticket so at the next stop he got kicked off the train. Glad we had real tickets!
Before long we were skidding off the train. We all lined up behind Mrs Cuming and we were walking in the city to the youth hostel!

PLANTS SWEATING? So you thought only animal sweat? TRANSPIRATION IN PLANTS Aim:
To find out where and how plants breathe through their leaves to live.
Introduction:
We think it will help us understand how plants work better. To do this we need to know where plants breathe from. Prediction/Hypothesis
We think the plant with the jelly on the top of the leaf will die. Equipment / Materials
3 plants in pots. (About the same size and the same type of plant.)
Vaseline/ Jelly.
How to do the project:
Leave a plant with no vaseline. This is plant 1 ( This is for the control )
Put jelly on the bottom of the leaves. This plant 2
Put jelly on the stem of the plant. This is plant 3
Water each plant the same amount each day
Treat all of the plants the same, making sure they get the same light, same amount of water as well.
Check the plants for for dead leaves. Check the plants everyday for a week.
Controlled variables
Sunlight
Same amount at water
Same size plant
Same type at plant
Same access to air
What we did today:
We got our plants pots (This took us awhile to find them)
We got our plants
We got our plants into our pots
We now put them next windowsill
Conclusion When we change where we put the Vaseline, the angle of the stem and the leaf stalk increased because the leaf was Transpiring. This means that my prediction was correct. Evaluation and Discussion We noticed that on the days when it was cold, the leaves didn’t droop. We learnt that the cells close and don’t use water on days when it is darker and cooler. This meant that the plant was not transpiring because the water could not evaporate into the air.
One thing we didn’t consider was that the leaves with vaseline are heavier than the leaves without vaseline. This means that the leaves with vaseline flop down more because of the weight. We also learnt plants lose water through their stomata. The water evaporates into the air which then it will turn into water vapour. If we shut off these holes then the plant will drop and the angle between the stalk and the stem will increase each day.
This wasn’t what we expected. We wonder if it is because we used tomato plants. These do not have a waxy top or stem. Next time we would do different tests using plants with a waxy top and hairs on the leaves to see if we get the same result. References __http://answers.yahoo.com/question/__
Pinata Technology
We decided to make a pinata for the technology challenge. First we looked on the internet to see some designs. Next we took a vote to choose what our pinata would be. We are progressing well on our pinata. It is going to plan so far. Everyone is working well together. This has made the build easy, fast and fun. Now all we need is some toilet rolls (empty) to use as our legs. We have decorated it. We are proud of our team work to make our pinata. This has made the build so much fun to do. It looks like a horse. It was meant to look like a dragon. (Nikki) I liked the colour. (Travis) I like the way we planned and the way we worked together. (Jaycee) I like the way our pinata came out and how we work together as a team.
In pottery I made a little saucer bowl and I made a plate. I went on the wheel and made a cup. I like clay because you can make anything you want.
Cameo 1 As we went to the spot we set up our gear and as soon as we got the first rod set in the water it swayed in the wind. Then as the rest of the rods got into the water we waited for the fish. Tug tug tug ... We got a fish, Up up! Wind! Come on! The fish was fighting. Come on! We got it a few metres. Later the rest of the lines got a fish. Our line broke.
Cameo 2 "So Hot! Can't walk!" It was a long walk to the top to the look out. I felt nearly dehydrated just keeping up with the group. 80 miles to go I fell to the ground. "So dehydrated" on the ground in the bleaching sun. As soon as I got some water from my camp parent I had enough energy to race to the top. Fine I got to the top. Look! Seal! Naw! A long way back to cape. See Army visit Yum! good! memm! The food for the army . The medics showed us what they eat and how they cook the food. I tried cheese and noodles and chocolate and condensed milk and crackers. 2012

I got better at using repetition in my poem
I looked at sizes that would suit the hole for a bird. I needed to put the right piece in the right place and follow a plan. I got better at using a tape measure.
I had to think about the best place to put screws to hold it together
I looked on the internet with dad to find a plan
We used a photo and made it bigger
Porina Moth eats the grass roots so our grass dies. I want to stop that
We listened to advice
I took extra care with my sketch and made it my best because I knew it would be on display at the show
I am interested in farming and the damage from the Porina Moth

I like eating cheese. No, I don't just like it ... I love it!! The farmer always tries to cut off my tail but he never gets it because I dash back into my hole where I am safe and he can't get me. I live there with my sister and my brother. They are fun to play with.
Newspaper Report Apiti school's Production for 2011 was the 3 little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig. It told the story of how the wolves left home. They had to build their own home. The Big BadPig walked down the road. He saw a brick house, but the audience thought it was made of sticks, but it was really made of bricks. The Pig said what a huge challenge for me to blow down. The rest of the story tells how the wolf goton. The character I liked was the Grey Wolf ( Caleb K). He acted well and spoke clearly.

Lamb and Calf Day - Travis 2010 on PhotoPeach
At first I got a milkbottle and I stuck LED lights on to the milk bottle and I got a wire and put it onto a battery. I put a switch on the battery with wires. This was new learning for me. I enjoyed making the LED light. It was fun because I was working with my Dad for once. I thimk it looked pretty cool. Actually awesome because it had a bushy light which made it look like you were in the bush hunting. Next time I can put two more lights on it camouflage them with leaves!
At fisrt I got my calf and I went back and I led my calf. After I led my calf, I fed him and I fed my calf milk. I brushed him and I washed his legs. I was proud of my calf and my calf was happy with me. In the end I was proud of myself because I won the cup for the calves. And I came second in the indoor exhibits. It was awesome. Mum and Dad loved it and they felt proud of me. I can't wait until next year.
We checked how good our Oroua River is.
I am finding how healthy our river is by looking at the things we found
Reflection about my Science Fair Project 2009 My science fair project was about hunting clothes
I wanted to find out – Which hunting shirt is the best to go hunting in. Which shirt the animals can’t see from a long way away. Method I hung the hunting clothes on the fence and asked everyone which one they couldn’t see easily. Results I wrote them down then I counted them up. The camo shirt number 4 was the winner. I learnt the camo shirt is hardest to see. The hard part was thinking about to do, sticking it on . Mrs Burton helped me do the heading, and stick it straight. It was fun.
Our group is working on recycling. We recycle paper and food scraps. Our group puts paper into big bins and people take it away for us. We used to feed our scraps to the pigs, but they have gone so now we feed them to the worms. Worms eat lots of things, but they don't eat dairy, meat or citrus.
